Bleeding Heart, or Clerodendrum thomsoniae, is an evergreen vine that has rather large dark green heart shaped leaves. The blooms are very unusual; the white is two toned with white and red; the red is two toned with red and magenta. These blooms are clustered in groups of up to 20 blooms, very beautiful.
The Bleeding Heart vine blooms off and on spring to fall. This is a twining vine and should be pruned in late winter to promote new growth. It can be grown in full sun or shade. However, if the plant has been kept in the shade and you want to put it in the sun, it must be done gradually. It will bloom on new growth, growing to about 12'. The Bleeding Heart needs regular water and protection from frost.
