Jasminum Sambac (Arabian Jasmine)

A single jasmine vine can perfume an entire room or garden with the sweet fragrance of its white, yellow or pink blooms. The narrow trumpet-shaped flowers are borne in clusters. The simple or compound leaves are almost always evergreen. J. polyanthum and Arabian jasmine are evergreen. Jasmines have twining young shoots but grow more attractively when they are tied and trained to garden structures or trellises. In frost-free areas, jasmines can be allowed to ramble as ground covers. They also can be grown as house plants or in a greenhouse.

Jasminum Sambac

Insider's secret

Outdoors, plant jasmines in full sun or partial shade. They grow best in a well-drained, light soil enriched with leaf mold, peat moss or compost. From spring through fall, fertilize monthly with a balanced fertilizer such as 10-10-10. Tie the stems to supports and keep the soil evenly moist through the growing season. Prune after flowering to keep the plants thinned and shaped. Provide winter protection in Zones 7 and 8.
