

This genus consists of around 50 species of annuals, perennials and evergreen subshrubs are mainly from southern Europe, northern Africa and western Asia. Highly regarded as decorative plants they are excellent for rock gardens, bedding and borders. Showy flowers are borne in either flattish heads in colors of white, red and purple, or in erect racemes of pure white flowers.
Insider's Secret
Fully to marginally frost hardy, they require a warm, sunny position and a well-drained, light soil, preferably with added lime or dolomite. Propagate from seed in spring or fall they may self-sow, but are unlikely to become invasive- or cuttings in summer.
