Fennel, foeniculum vulgare, is in the parsly family. It can be grown in full sun to part shade with well drained soil. One plant can grow to six feet in the right conditions. The Bronze variety makes an exellent addition to the landscape. The green or bronze stems have fine feathery foliage which produce a fan of yellow flowers with a licorice sent. The flowers are followed by aromatic seeds. Fennel is a host plant for the Swallowtail butterflies and their caterpillars. It is a great plant for either an herb garden or a butterfly garden.
