Black Pepper Vine

The Black Pepper Vine, Piper Nigrum, is a tropical perennial vine that can grow to 15 feet tall. It has large shiny dark green leaves and interesting white blossoms. A single stem will bear 20 to 30 fruiting spikes. Each flower spike can produce up to
50 berries. When berries start to turn red, they can be picked and put in boiling
water for 10 minutes. They will turn black in an hour. Dry in the sun for 3 to 4
days. Whole pepper corns can be stored in a cool dry place for up to a year. Black pepper is rumored to be a digestive aid.
