Coreopsis
One of the easiest of all perennials, bright, bold coreopsis isn't the least bit fussy about soil, but it does insist on full sun. Its shape and color reflect that radiance, with perky yellow many-petaled flowers shimmering above masses of dense, ferny foliage.
Often referred to as threadleaf coreopsis, is a plant gardeners can count on for bloom from June to frost. Hardy from Zone 3 to Zone 9, with fine, feathery foliage and pale golden flowers, it's drought tolerant and long-lived. Give it sun and good drainage and it will be off and running. The variety 'Moonbeam' has pale yellow flowers and reaches about 18 to 24 inches: 'Zagreb' is more compact, about 12 to 15 inches tall, and has deeper yellow flowers.
