This is a large genus of perennials and shrubs native to temperate regions of the northern hemisphere, many from arid and semi-arid environments. This family of plants has been cultivated since ancient times for either its foliage, which is often aromatic and sometimes repellent to insects; in many species it is coated with whitish hairs. This particular plant is purely ornamental, however, and makes a striking addition to the garden border. Silver foliage plants also complement almost every color scheme.
